Freedom Star: Gertie's Journey on the Underground Railroad uses near lifesize handheld puppets, rod puppets, shadow puppets, and hand-dyed scenery to tell a dramatic story, based on local history, of a young girl who escapes from a farm in Missouri and makes her way through Iowa on her way to freedom. It features live music with topical songs by musician Ron Hillis. This show will touch your heart and enhance your curriculum!

This year's program includes music by Mutiny in the Parlor and Laura Kittrell; a story by Susan Short Gilbert, and two Eulenspiegel pieces: Crazy Eddy on the Judgment Day by Iowa Poet Laureate Mary Swander and The Mirror, a Korean tale.
