Other Workshops for Adults at Owl Glass
From time to time, Owl Glass Puppetry Center offers workshops for adults
in puppet making and performing. These are often available for graduate
and undergraduate as well as teacher and library recertification credits.
If you assemble a group of 10 or more, we can tailor a workshop to your
needs.
PUPPETRY BASICS
Learn the basics of making and working with hand puppets and shadow
puppets. On Day One, we'll build a simple hand puppet and learn to make
it come to life. On Day Two, we'll make shadow puppets and work on a
simple group performance. We'll focus on techniques that are useful
to teachers and youth leaders as well as beginning puppeteers.
BUILDING GIANT PAGEANT AND PARADE PUPPETS
Build a spectacular creation for your parade, festival, or other event!
Using cardboard, papier maché, foam, fabric, and trim, we'll
build characters up to ten feet tall! Make a dragon, a sun, a mythical
creature, or anything you wish. Best of all, you can earn one or two
credits having fun!
ROD PUPPET ROUND-UP!
Come to Owl Glass Puppetry Center for two days and make a humorous,
silly or serious rod puppet character. Rod puppets are figures mounted
on rods and/or manipulated with rods. They can be built to work over
a screen, on a tabletop, or one-on-one as lap puppets. We'll introduce
you to a number of different styles and characters. You'll practice
working them and choose which style you'd like to make. The second evening
you'll leave the puppetry center with a rod puppet of your own creation
and lots of ideas!
SHADOW PUPPET WORKTHROUGH
Participate in the ancient, magical art of shadow puppetry! You'll learn
how to make beautiful, mobile, well-articulated puppets out of cardboard,
colored acetate, and other things that cast interesting shadows, such
as lace and feathers. You'll make a simple, colorful shadow stage that
can be stored flat. Best of all, you'll learn a process that you can
use and teach. After making the puppets and the stage, you'll work on
a show with your classmates and perform it for a friendly local audience.
This workshop will take two days.
* Fees for adult workshops average $60.00 for one day & $100.00 for
2 days.
There may be an additional materials charge.
