Enjoy high quality puppet theatre in a small town atmosphere with Iowa's only professional puppet company! Come to Owl Glass Puppetry Center in West Liberty for a performance by Eulenspiegel or one of their guests! The 2010-2011 season features something for every age and every taste: folk tales (Coyote's Eyeball by Patti Smithsonian from Colorado and Sal Fink, Catfish Wrangler by Eulenspiegel), marionettes (Sock Puppet Serenade by Hunter Marionettes from Minneapolis) , an Eulenspiegel favorite during Spring Break, and Historical Fiction starring your friends (Immigrant Stew at the Chat "n" Chew)

Planned performances will use hand puppets, marionettes, rod puppets, shadow puppets, novelty puppets, and live music! Start the season by attending the West Liberty Children's Festival and end it by participating in the popular summer Parade Project!All events take place in downtown West Liberty, with most performances at the New Strand Theatre, a lovely 230 seat theater built in 1910 as an opera house.

Just a twenty minute drive from Muscatine or Iowa City, West Liberty is a hopping little town with lots of restaurants and a fabulous coffee shop to indulge in before and after the performance! For the eleventh consecutive year, Eulenspiegel offers Puppets and Pastries: Dessert Theatre For Adults, a classy evening out for the mature generation.

The Fourteenth Annual West Liberty Children's Festival will include a puppetry mini-festival, featuring performances by  Parasol Puppets from Missouri, Corcoran Puppets from Wisconsin, Buffy Quintero from Iowa City, and Eulenspiegel Puppets, plus a mask performance by Scott and Johanna Hongell-Darsee from New Mexico. The festival offers food, beverages, performances by local dance troupes, strolling musicians Scotty and Mak, a Children's Parade, and a host of children's games and activities.

EULENSPIEGEL PUPPETS

Sal Fink, Catfish Wrangler!

Eulenspiegel celebrates our rivers and prairies with stories starring Sal Fink, legendary daughter of Mike Fink, the mighty keel boatman. Sal navigates the rivers on the back of her pet catfish, Nishnabotna. She tames a bear, vanquishes a vindictive snake and
plays fetch with her pet pig, Suey. While she’s still in diapers, Sal tames a tornado and saves her dad from drowning.
This lively performance uses over twenty puppets and live music, written and performed by Ron Hillis. With lots of sound
effects and harmony singing, this performance will leave you humming!

Kurt Hunter brings his beautifully crafted marionettes to life in whimsical vignettes guaranteed to delight audience member of all ages!

Immigrant Stew at the Chat "n" Chew

Developed in collaboration with author Mary Swander, puppeteer Bob Aiken, visual artist Peggy Fitzgerald, and musicians Ron Hillis and Dave Moore, this Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre production tells the story of immigration to the Midwest through the eyes of Kathy Schmidt Mcgillicutty, the proprietess of the fictional Chat ‘N’ Chew cafe. The show combines various styles of puppets and masks with live music.

Magical flying horses, sea monsters, jealous stars, Bigfoot, Batman, and peoples' bad breath are only a few of the characters in worldwide constellation myths.  Have fun learning about the skies and enjoy the amazing special effects!
