Glass Puppetry Center Owl Glass Puppetry Center is part of a growing national trend towards permanent facilities devoted to the art of puppetry. Located in the small but active town of West Liberty, Iowa, in a 100 year-old storefront building, Owl Glass is easily accessible from Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Moline, and the rest of eastern Iowa and western Illinois. Owl Glass performances are held at the center and at the historical New Strand Theatre, built in 1910 as an opera house and located in downtown West Liberty.  In addition to performances by the in-house troupe, the Eulenspiegel Puppets, Owl Glass features guest performances by puppeteers from all over the world. Since 1995, Owl Glass has hosted puppeteers from China, Mexico, Germany, Russia, and Scotland, as well as Missouri, California, New Mexico, New Hampshire, Ohio, Colorado, Minnesota, Texas, and Iowa. Come to a regularly scheduled performance or ask about setting up a special performance as a field trip for your group. You can also attend workshops in puppet making and puppet performance. Some of the adult workshops are available for academic credit, and all of the workshops, for adults and children, are stimulating and fun. Owl Glass sponsors a number of community activities as well. We founded and for eleven years hosted an annual amateur puppeteers festival; we founded and co-sponsor the West Liberty Children's Festival in September, annual since 1997. In the summer we hold open studio hours and invite everyone in to help build puppets for the county fair parade in July.
